THE COLOUR OF SOUND

One of the most direct and effective ways of communicating art is through sound and colour. The reason being is that they immediately affect the viewer’s and listener’s experience without the need for any thought or explanation.

The colour of sound is an audiovisual installation that explores the relationship between colour and sound. The artwork proposes a new way in which the viewer can perceive sound through colour with the aid of an original soundscape accompanied by a projection.

All visuals and sound are original and produced for this project.

The following are different instances from the projection:

The set up consisted of a large empty room with a blank wall. A projector was set up on the other end of the room on a high shelf. A table was also set at the back of the room with a laptop to stream the animation. Finally two speakers connected to an amplifier were setup facing the audience.

The artwork was projected on the blank wall. The audience could walk around the room and view the installation from different angles. The dark room, large projection and sound system created an immersive experience to all those who visited.

The exhibition was held at The Splendid in Valletta on the 17th of May 2019.

The installation lasted fourteen minutes after which it looped. The animation had no beginning and no end so that the viewer could enter the installation at any instance.
